Have you had the experience yet of having an employee spend work time updating their profile on Match.com? What about the employee who makes derogatory remarks about the company or their supervisor on their Facebook page? What if you “google” a prospective employee’s name and find a less than professional picture of them on their My Space page? Where does the employee rights of privacy and free speech conflict with the employers expectations of a productive workforce, professionalism, and just plain common sense. If you are just little bit confused by any of this and the hype of Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc. you definitely will want to be at the September meeting. Thank you to one of our newest Myrtle Beach educational opportunities, Miller Motte Technical College, for sponsoring our September meeting.
In October we will be holding an Executive Session where you are encouraged to bring along senior members of your management team. More details to follow.
We will be back with another hot legal issue in November when Tom Bright from Ogletree Deakins will be informing us about the FLSA. The Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division has all ready hired 250 new investigators and plans to have 1,000 more on board by the close of FY 2011. Are you positive all of your wage and hour classifications and practices comply with the regs?
Have a great month!
